This article will go over the basics of what it can do so you don’t have to purchase it to find out for yourself. Camtasia was made by TechSmith and they also make SnagIt which we will review later.
This article will go over Camtasia versions 7, 8, and 9 unless specified otherwise in parenthesis such as (version 8) or (9). Camtasia X has been released but will not be reviewed here.
Camtasia is a screen capture and video editing software that allows you to record your computer screen while simultaneously having the ability to add voice-over narration, live drawing, or elapsed time.
Camtasia records both the audio from any program running at the same time and the screen which creates a layered video file. Camtasia can be used to create training videos, demos, product presentations, lecture recordings, how-to guides, etc.
